I am connecting CUCM 6.1 to Teltronics PBX 2020 via Cisco 2800 gateway with E1 ETSI PRI
I configure the 2821 gateway as Primary-Net5 ISDN Switch type
Calls between PBX and CUCM are ok but calling name doesn't appear
When the digital phone call ip phone, I tried to debug isdn q931 and i can see the calling name in the debug
Locking Shift to Codeset 7
Codeset 7 IE 0x28 i = 0x01, 'I.GHALAYIN', 0x00000000000000000000
Anyone can help me ?

Mohamed

Hi,
I don't believe that CUCM supports this codeset. See if the PBX can use codeset 6 instead, and this should work.

Hi,
What is the meaning of Codeset ?

Are you using H.323 or MGCP ? If you see the name in debug output, the router is able to decode it.

This is what I mean by codeset:
Locking Shift to Codeset 7
Codeset 7 IE 0x28 i = 0x01, 'I.GHALAYIN', 0x00000000000000000000
Here, it's Codeset 7.
Because the ISDN stack on the router recognizes it doesn't necessarily mean that the ISDN stack on CUCM is able to decode this. The 'debug isdn q931' is decoded with the router's ISDN stack, so it will possibly decode things the CUCM stack will not. It's also very possible that CUCM knows what it's looking at, but it just not supported.

What about H.323 gateway ?
Will it solve this issue ?

I believe so.

I would try that as your first step. If you can't ask the other side to try configuring another codeset, your options become fairly limited.
Since your gateway appears to recognize this, you can try checking to see if we'll send this information to CUCM. You can also try SIP, as it's very similar to H323 but sometimes you'll see slightly different feature sets on corner cases like this.

First, I will try to ask the PBX team to adjust its configuration
Which parameters should they configure on the PBX ?
Should I ask the PBX team to configure the Codeset with 6 ? please confirm
Will they understand the "codeset" ? OR it has another name in teleco/PBX world ?

I configured the 2821 router with MGCP configuration
I can see the calling name in the debug output but it seems the router can't understand it !!

With MGCP, the router does not have any intelligence. All the message processing is done on the CM.
If you use H.323 or SIP, the router does all the processing and you would be able to see the calling name.
