I have to clean up a datacenter core to rearrange ports on a WS-X6148A-GE-TX so that we can do etherchannel -- freeing up ports on different port groupings to get around the 8:1 oversubscription.
What happens if you have, say, an etherchannel on ports 1 and 9, and a server on port 2 that wantes to talk to that etherchannel. Do the packets go all the way down to the backplane to go through the multiplexing hash? Or do they switch internally on that port group?
Or is there no internal switching on those port groups at all, etherchannel or no?
Anyone know?

Hi Brian,
6148 is classic line card. It could not make forwarding decision locally. When a port on 6148 line card receive a packet, it will be sent to data bus, all line cards and supervior engine will have a copy of packet. Sup engineer makes forwarding decision and sends the result to "R bus". The destination line card (here is the same line card as source) will base on the info received on "R bus" to forward the packet.
