Hello,

Depending on the platform you can use the command "show idprom interface " to show the Serial number, revision and model of the GBIC/SFP.

Hi Jorge,

i have the serial number with me, i wanted to verify the product. Do we have any tool in cisco.com to check the originlity of the product.

Thank you,

Hi,

I don't know any tool to provide serial number validation.

Stick your SFP into the appliance. Non-Cisco approved SFP will cause the appliance to disable the port.

There's a "exception" and I'm not discussing that.

By saying "Non-Cisco Approved SFP", do you actually mean "Cisco Brand SFP", or are their other 3rd party SFPs that are approved by Cisco as "Non-Cisco Approved SFP"s?

"Non-Cisco Approved SFP" means SFPs that doesn't have "Cisco" badge/stickers on it. :)

A customer has given us this link http://www.advantageoptics.com/GLC-SX-MM.html for a third party SFP that supposedly works in Cisco gear. It may work, but I'm pretty sure it will void any smartnet or warranty that the customer may have on the equipment.
