MTP Question

We have an ISR-based H.323 gateway registered to a 5.1 CUCM cluster. The "MTP required" checkbox checked. The ISR has soft & hard MTP resources defined and registered, and they're listed at the top of the MRGL used by this branch's phones as well as the gateway. At the bottom of that MRGL are the soft CUCM MTP's. Sniffer traces show every call traversing the WAN and hitting the Publisher's MTP. We're not utilizing any IVR's or any 3rd party H.323 systems.

My first question is do we need MTP for this H.323 gateway? My second question is that if we do need MTP, how do we ensure that this remote branch's calls utilize local ISR-based MTP's?

thanks,

Will

Hi Will,

Few things to make sure of:

'show sccp' to see if they are all showing ACTIVE and registered.

Then check your DSPfarm profiles to see if they allow the codecs you're using. If you're doing G.729 over H323 but your profiles are only for G.711, then you would have a problem, for example.

You need MTP to do fast start, which some voice applications require. As well, it is also needed for a number of supplementary services on CUCM.
