Hi,
I just replaced an old 2600 series router with a 2821 router. It's a simple WAN config with an Ethernet LAN and a Frame-Relay WAN, but I just cannot get it to work!! The old router had a WIC-1DSU-T1 and the new router has a VWIC-2MFT. The DTE comes up, then the PVC .. but immediately goes down. When I do a debug frame-relay LMI during this process it shows the LMI going out, but no inbound. The basics are clocking line, IETF encapsulation, and LMI type cisco. I have included the pertinent part of the old and new router configs below and I REALLY would like to figure out what I am doing wrong!
Old 2600 router (the WIC is not version 2)
interface Serial0/0
bandwidth 1536
no ip address
encapsulation frame-relay IETF
ip route-cache flow
no ip mroute-cache
logging event subif-link-status
logging event dlci-status-change
service-module t1 timeslots 1-24
frame-relay lmi-type cisco
!
interface Serial0/0.222 multipoint
bandwidth 1536
ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.252
ip policy route-map noCOS
frame-relay interface-dlci 222

Is the physical inetrface "up, up"?
What does the output of a sh frame relay map and sh frame relay pvc show?

It is up up for a few seconds (that's when the DLCI show as being up too)then it goes up/down. So no FR map data is available, and the PVC is inactive.

Strange.
So the problem has nothing to do with frame relay because your physical interface is not staying up either. Your router is creating a layer 2 connection with the TELCO switch and that is whats failing.
Can you swap out the WIC card in the router? Its new, but maybe you have bad hardware, tht wont be the first time Ive seen that.
What about the T1 cable? Is it the same one or did you swap that out, too?

I tried the config on the other serial port and moved the module to another slot, and changed the T1 cable. Nothing - so I have a new vwic2-2mft-t1 being shipped to me tomorrow.

That is not a defective HW issue.

Configure:
network-clock-participate wic 2
network-clock-select 1 t1 0/2/1
then if still trouble do clear counters, send output of "show controllers t1", "show interface s0/2/1".

Thanks. I will try that. I actually did the first command but not the second.

Unfortunately it was my bonehead mistake, it should have been channel-group 0 timeslots 1-24, not channel-group 0 timeslots 24. *sigh*
Thanks everyone
