According to the Optical guys, the 9124 san switch cannot be used to extend one of the fabrics between sites because it does not have a frequency specific dwdm gbic which is supported.

Is this statement true?

Hi,

DO you have DWDM boxes between two sites or going for a dedicated link from some service provider?

Whatever method you use DWDM boxes (either yours or service provider) has cards which take Non DWDM Optical frequency and change it to DWDM frequency.

So even if you dont have DWDM GBICyou can extend your SAN fabric between sites.

If you have fiber between sites and distance is less than 10km you can connect without DWDM.

Check this link have info about compatible CWDM/DWDM compatible SFP for 9000
