recert my CCNA or should I just go for a CCNP

Unanswered Question

I used to have a CCNA which exp about 2 yrs ago. I was thinking of recert but now am thinking of just going for the CCNP since I have over 10 yrs of exper already and really should have a more meaningful certif. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought i read that to rectify an expired CCNA, I just need to pass one of the CCNP exams. Is that right?

thanks in advance,

I have this problem too.

You need to have an active CCNA before you can qualify for the CCNP.

You can still take the exams, they just wont be valid until you get a valid CCNA.

Once you have your CCNA, when you pass an equal level or higher Cisco certification it restarts the expiration time for all of your other certifications. A good example would be if you received your CCNA last year and then passed the BCMSN exam, the expiration date for your CCNA would be the same as the BCMSN.
