Solved: How do I limit SSID's per AP's?

I have a 4404 with 3 SSID's configured on it. I only want all SSID's to be available on one floor in one building and not on any other AP's in any other building or floor.

How do I do that?

I thought the way to do it was via AP group but have not had any luck getting that to work. I setup a group for the AP's that I do not want all SSID's and then assigned those AP's to that group. However, I can still see all three SSID's where I only want to see 2 SSID's.

You actually do this via WLAN Override. Using the WLC GUI, click the Wireless tab at the top. On the left, select the 802.11a/n or 802.11b/g/n radio networks. Select the AP you want and click "configure" using the drop-down icon on the right. You'll see a section at the bottom of this page that allows you to enable WLAN Override. Once enabled, you can select which SSIDs are allowed on this radio.

Keep in mind that wireless signal can bleed through floors, so you might still see a "floor x" SSID on "floor y". To prevent this, keep your AP power low and disable the 1, 2, and 5.5Mbps data rates.

Hi Seth,

The feature you are looking for is called WLAN Override in WLC 4.x versions (which I believe you may be running).

In 5.x versions you will use AP Groups:)

Enabling WLAN Override

By default, access points transmit all defined WLANs on the controller. However, you can use the WLAN Override option to select which WLANs are transmitted and which ones are not on a per access point basis. For example, you can use WLAN override to control where in the network the guest WLAN is transmitted or you can use it to disable a specific WLAN in a certain area of the network.

Once you create a new WLAN, the WLAN > Edit page for the new WLAN appears. In this page you can define various parameters specific to this WLAN including General Policies, RADIUS Servers, Security Policies, and 802.1x Parameters.

**Check Admin Status under General Policies to enable the WLAN. If you want the AP to broadcast the SSID in its beacon frames, check Broadcast SSID.

Note: You can configure up to sixteen WLANs on the controller. The Cisco WLAN Solution can control up to sixteen WLANs for Lightweight APs. Each WLAN has a separate WLAN ID (1 through 16), a separate WLAN SSID (WLAN name), and can be assigned unique security policies. Lightweight APs broadcast all active Cisco WLAN Solution WLAN SSIDs and enforce the policies that you define for each WLAN.

Hi, noticed this is long since closed but i have a related question. Does this solution require a specific firmware to work? I have a 4402 with version 6.0.182.0 but when i follow your information i don't see the option to enable the WLAN Override.

It would be AP Groups instead.
