MDS 9100 MGMT0 showing half duplex

My user has a Cisco MDS SAN module installed in a IBM Bladecenter chassis.

I took a look at the module's managment interface mgmt0. It's showing half duplex. The module does not allow me to change the duplex setting. According to documentation, duplex is auto sense.

The neighbor switch port is set for auto. It displayed "auto-full". I configured the switch port for full duplex. The mgmt0 interface still displayed as half duplex.

Anyone know of bug or issue with SAN mgmt0?

User has other modules same hardware and software version with no issue. We see full duplex on both sides.

You might want to check with IBM as to the difference in the Blade Center Chassis. There really is no physical interface for mgmt0 on the 9100, it is connected to the internal ethernet switch or hub via the back plane connectors. I believe that this switch or hub is on the Management Module for the chassis.

Are the Blade Center chassis the same model?

Could one chassis have a newer version of the Management Module that perhaps has a switch versus a hub incorporated?

Because there is no console port, the configuration of the management interface is disabled. It obtains all of it's settings from the Chassis. Disabling configuration on the mgmgt 0 interface prevents a situation where an incorrect setting disables the interface locking out the user. With an external MDS, you have the console as a way to recover if the mgmt 0 ends up with a configuration problem, as a way to recover.

Hope this helps,

Mike
