Solved: 3560E, 4948, IP Base, Enterprise?

I'm looking at the two switches above and need to run OSPF. Do I have to pay the extra cost for the E version to run the enterprise software?? Or can I buy the S version? I notice there is a substantial price difference between S and E versions..

Hi Andy,

3560E switch comes with a Universal Image. You have the following three IOS feature set available for 3560E -

IP Base

IP Services

Advanced IP Services

IP Base is the switch with "S" in the part code, which does not supports OSPF.

IP Services is the switch with "E" in the part code, which supports OSPF.

Thus you need to purchase the switch with "E" in the part code to support OSPF. Although "S" switches can be later upgraded to IP Services.

Even on 4948 switch IP Base does not supports OSPF. Its supported in Enterprise Services.

You need to purchase switch with "E" in the part code.
