CME onramp store fax in CUE

Unanswered Question
Mar 25th, 2009

I was reviewing this document:

http://supportwiki.cisco.com/wiki/images/f/f3/Uc500_onramp.pdf

What I don't understand is how the fax gets sent to a CUE voicemail box for storage?  I see in the MTA configuration that the server ip (10.1.10.1) is the factory default ip address for Unity Express.  BUT, the document doesn't give a down to earth explenation on what each MTA confiuration does??  According to the Unity Express CLI administraton guide, this parameter is the SMTP relay server.  The document mentioned above explains the configuration as:

"The following commands are needed to complete the configuration for this application"

This does not by any means explain why this configuration is necessary?  I am able to sucessfully configure a fax onramp in CME to realy the fax to my email address but I would like to configure CUE as a store-and-forward fax relay.  The above mentioned document does not clearly explain the CLI portion of the configuration.

Second example:

Reffering to the above mentioned document, the destination pattern configured in the MMoIP dial-peer is 801@10.1.10.1.  So, this is the fax extension and the IP address of CUE?  This does not make sense to me because when I configure this, I get the following errors:

000219: Mar 24 21:15:59.554: %MSPI-4-MSPI_NO_SMTP_SEND: MSPI- Could not
send data to the SMTP server, cid=19, mspi_on_xmit, lost connection
000220: Mar 24 21:15:59.554: %LAPP_ON_MSGS-6-LAPP_ON_CAUSE_NO_ESMTP_CONNECT: ESMTP client did not connect or lost connection to remote server
000221: Mar 24 21:15:59.558: //-1/xxxxxxxxxxxx/SMTPC/esmtp_client_engine_dispose_context:exit@2094
000222: Mar 24 21:15:59.566: %ISDN-6-DISCONNECT: Interface Serial0/3/0:1  disconnected from unknown , call lasted 45 seconds
000223: Mar 24 21:15:59.570: ISDN Se0/3/0:23 Q931: TX -> DISCONNECT pd = 8  callref = 0x8006
Cause i = 0x8083 - No route to destination

This errors make sense because CUE is not an SMTP server (per documentation, "mta send server 10.1.10.1 port 25").

Is the 801@10.1.10.1 a SIP message?

Is there a better doc out there or can you explain this?

Thank you.

I have this problem too.

The link you just posted references the exact document I mentioned above.  ?????

I just realized the link I sent you points to the same document that you had questions about. You need to tell CUE to accept inbound connections from the IOS gateway. The step is on page 7 of this doc.

Also, in our application notes we do not typically document the command description. There is plenty of documentation on Cisco.com that covers that at length.

For T.37, here is the reference CLI docs:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3/vvf_c/cisco_ios_fax_services_over_ip_application_guide/t37.html

Marcos,

Thank you for the information.  I am still a bit confused on the configuration.  Please answer my questions below.  It would be greatly appreciated.

IF I configure the mta server to point to my SMTP server, then configure the session tagret in the mmoip dial-peer to my email address, fax offramp works as designed.  If I configure the mta server to be Unity Express, then configure the mmoip session target to 801@10.1.10.1 I get the following errors:

000636: Mar 25 19:41:09.777: %LAPP_ON_MSGS-6-LAPP_ON_CAUSE_NO_ESMTP_CONNECT: ESMTP client did not connect or lost connection to remote server
000637: Mar 25 19:41:09.777: //-1/xxxxxxxxxxxx/SMTPC/esmtp_client_engine_dispose_context:exit@2094
000638: Mar 25 19:41:09.789: %ISDN-6-DISCONNECT: Interface Serial0/3/0:0  disconnected from unknown , call lasted 26 seconds
000639: Mar 25 19:41:09.789: ISDN Se0/3/0:23 Q931: TX -> DISCONNECT pd = 8  callref = 0x800F
Cause i = 0x8083 - No route to destination

I have configured the IOS gateway in Unity Express as stated in the document.  Maybe i'm missing something simple?

The document has the IOS gateway in Uniry Express as the loopback address. Does this feature not function without the loopback interface, or can it also be the FastEthernet interface (which is how I have the system configured.)

You are missing the command "destination-pattern 2497" under your mmoip dial peer. Try that and let me know.

I added the destination pattern.  I get this error:

001319: Mar 26 14:58:50.228: %MSPI-1-MSPI_BAD_CONFIG: MSPI-bad configuration,  mspi_setup_req: NULL application data

Marcos Hernandez Thu, 03/26/2009 - 09:03

Your mmoip dial peer is missing more  stuff. The example in the app note looks like this:

UC520(config)#dial-peer voice 2500 mmoip
UC520(config-dial-peer)# service fax_on_vfc_onramp_app out-bound

Can you try to follow the steps in the app note verbatim and then customize your config from there?

Thanks,

Marcos

Configuring the box verbatum to the doc is not an option.  I will contact Cisco TAC.  Thanks anyways.

voipis4me Thu, 03/26/2009 - 09:51

yes:

dial-peer voice 700 mmoip
description FAX offramp
service fax_on_vfc_onramp_app out-bound
destination-pattern 2497
information-type fax
session target mailto:2497@10.10.9.198
incoming called-number 2497

I get the following errors:

001443: Mar 26 16:34:57.136: %LAPP_ON_MSGS-6-LAPP_ON_CAUSE_NO_ESMTP_CONNECT: ESMTP client did not connect or lost connection to remote server

Before you open a TAC case, email me your full config at marchern@cisco.com

I want to take a look at you translation rules.

Thanks,

Marcos

The fax feature in CUE works great!

There is a change in the Fax configuration screen in CUE 7.x...

But in the screeshot above what's the fax printing number? But using cue as fax storage how can i read the fax or print it?

Thanks and best regards,

Carlo S.

Hi Carlo,

The documents I posted in that other thread will have this information.

Thanks,

Marcos
