Programming Speed-Dial from IP Phones

Unanswered Question

Hi  Cassie,

While you have the  PMs ear, we need to know 1) if the 7931 phone allows one to configure their  speed dials directly from the phone (the documentation is completely inadequate,  inconsistent; 2) what exactly needs to be done to enable that  functionality (again the documentation alludes to it, but has not been  sufficient for use to make it work).

    tks,

ric

Hi Cassie,
You should be able to configure speed-dial on the 7931 IP  Phones by hitting the menus button. If you used CCA to configure the UC500, then  the top left button (button 24) will be the menu button. You can then scroll  down to the "Services" (option 4) and select "My Phone Apps" (option 3). You  will need to restart your IP Phone to get the settings to take effect. Remember  the speed-dial is configured on the first available button after all the  configured line buttons.

Hello Saurabh,
Is the documentation supported on the 7931  with the UC520.  This is from the 7931 user guide from Cisco's website.  Also,  if it does work, should they reset the phone afterwards.... It does not say in  the doc.

Program Personal Speed-Dial Buttons

Your system administrator can assign speed dial numbers to  your phone. You may not be able to program every speed dial number.

To program personal speed-dial buttons, use the following  method:

1. Select an available phone line by lifting the handset, by pressing  the NewCall soft key, or by pressing a line button. Listen for the dial tone.

2. Press the pound key (#).

3. Press the speed-dial button that you want to program. A short beep  confirms that you are starting to program this button.

4. Enter the speed-dial number. The digits appear on the phone display.  Use the backspace (<<)  soft key to erase digits that were entered incorrectly.

To remove a speed-dial number without replacing it with a new  one, press the pound key (#).

5. Press the same speed-dial button a second time to indicate that you  have finished entering the speed-dial digits and to store the new speed-dial  number.

6. To continue, press a new speed-dial button and repeat the process.  Hang up the handset to finish.

Thanks,

J Reed

To clear up some confusion.
Saurabh, the user wants to be able to  program the phones themselves at the phone and according to Cisco docs it can be  done.  To refrence a previous e-mail please look at the response below.  The  below instructions do NOT work for us.
Response to another e-mail  concerning the matter  below:................................................................
Hey all,
The user will not be using the CCA. The  documentation that Ric referred to in a previous e-mail is from the below link  off of Cisco's website.  The users have requested this documentation and we have  given them this guide from Cisco's website.  It does not work for us and I have had multiple engineers  try this just to make sure I was somehow not missing a step.
I have this problem too.

The CME/Phone document may not have been updated. The  process that I defined below was part of feature delivered in CME 7.0 release.  If you haven't used CCA to configure the UC500, then it could be missing the  ephone-template configuration for the 7931 IP Phone - this template is required  to invoke the "setting", "services", "message" and "directory"  URLs.

You can configure this manually, following the steps  below:

a) Create ephone-template for the 7931 IP Phones in the  global config mode:
ephone-template  15
button-layout 7931 2
ephone-template  15

b) Configure the ephone for 7931 with this template (you  can find the ephones by executing "show ephone 7931")
UC520#sh ephone 7931
ephone-10[9]  Mac:0018.1815.8D6F TCP socket:[9] activeLine:0 whisperLine:0 REGISTERED in SCCP  ver 9/9 max_streams=3
mediaActive:0 whisper_mediaActive:0 startMedia:0  offhook:0 ringing:0 reset:0 reset_sent:0 paging 0 debug:0 caps:9
IP:10.1.1.13  51469 7931  keepalive 1949 max_line 20 available_line 1

UC520#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with  CNTL/Z.
UC520(config)#ephone 10
UC520(config-ephone)#ephone-template  15
UC520(config-ephone)#reset

Once you have the above configured, you should be able to  follow the process below to create speed-dials
"You should be able to configure speed-dial on the 7931 IP  Phones by hitting the menus button. If you used CCA to configure the UC500, then  the top left button (button 24) will be the menu button. You can then scroll  down to the "Services" (option 4) and select "My Phone Apps" (option 3). You  will need to restart your IP Phone to get the settings to take effect. Remember  the speed-dial is configured on the first available button after all the  configured line buttons."
