Back Up question -

We currently back up the Pub. only , what happens if we need to rebuild

Whole cluster

Do we ?

1. Restore the Pub which will be on the latest we are on 6.1.x

2. Re-install the 6.0.x disk on each Sub

3. Upgrade each Sub to the actual release we are on- 6.1.x

4. Carry out a UTILS DBREPLICATION ALL on the Pub- will this be enough to replace the Publisher data to all the Subs

One Sub only - As it as above?

OR

Would it be best for take a back up of each sub once a month or longer so at least we can just do a DRS on the subscriber rather then the full install, upgrade as in steps 2, 3 , if so will the Utils DBREPLICATION <NODENAME> RESET on the Pub force the new data from the Pub to be replicated to the faulty Sub to before

Also what part does the Recovery Disk play?

Any comments, best practice

many thanks

It's fairly simple. You basically restore the Publisher, then just simple install a new subcriber with the same name and IP address. Everything will replicate down to the Subscriber. But your most important server is the Publisher. If this is not restored fully, it will be hard for the Subscribers to be rebuilt.

Remember, the Subscriber is simply a copy of the Publisher. The publisher writes all information to the Subscribers.

If have the disks to 6.12 you would load the Publisher to this.

Turn off DB Replication service

Upgrade to 6.13 (if this was your final). Then run DRS to restore the Publisher.

Publisher online, now simple load the Subscribers the same way, just without DRS restore. They will get a replicated copy of data from the Publisher once you restart the DB service.
