Hello,
If I have a small private network with 2 ISPs homed on the same router but the service is Cable and DSL and neither IPS will advertise the others IP addresses is there any point in still running BGP on the router? Can anyone list a few benefits that may still be gained? The need os for as much uptime as possible
Thanks in advance! All replies rated

Do you manage your own public IP addresses and BGP public AS ?
If not, static default route in primary/backup mode is enough.

In your situation, an advantage of having full BGP tables from both providers (if they're willing to provide them - might not for cable or DSL), would be your router would know whether a network is unreachable via one provider and/or know which provider has the shorter AS path.
PS:
Depending on your router, you might want to investigate Cisco's OER/PfR technology. Originally designed to deliver optimal outbound Internet routing and doesn't require BGP.
