WAAS:Client using ping as a baseline.

Hi,

There is WAAS demo we are doing for one of our clients,

The whole set up appears to be working ok,From the central manager its evident that there is compresion/optimization.

The problem however is that the client is using ping results as a benchmark for our work, their network architecture is also to blame.

We have been getting between 1500-1700ms,they believe that with WAAS it should come down to around 700ms.

How do i go about this?

Nick.

ICMP is not intercepted or accelerated via WAAS. Is the customer thinking that the WAN is so congested that normal latency should be around 700 ms so that is the target or something else? If you are dealing with extremely high latency caused by the network design, then the base problem needs to be dealt with, WAAS probably won't help much here except for the AO acceleration (like CIFS, etc.). If the latency is caused by congestion, WAAS can reduce the congestion, however we cannot increase the speed of packets crossing the wire, and most of the packets still need to cross the wire, especially when using Ping to measure.

Good luck,

Dan
