Hi every body!

Let say r1(router) is connected to another routerr2 via frame relay.

R1's0 is connected to Frame relay and r2 s0 is connected to frame relay but r2 is using sub interface s0.1 to connect toR1 via a dlci. Will they able to communicate in above case where r1 is using its physical int s0 while r2 is using sub int s0.1 ?

The original post is clear that one router is accessing the Frame Relay on its physical interface and this would clearly be a multipoint interface. It mentions that the other router is a subinterface which suggests point to point but is not clear about that. With a single DLCI connecting them there is clearly layer 2 connectivity and assuming correct address assignment there would be layer 3 connectivity. But the potential of multipoint connecting to point to point would present problems for various of the routing protocols that might attempt to run on this connection.

Yes, its done all the time in hub and spoke topologies.


Hub may have 30 subinterfaces, each with its own PVC facing a distant end spoke.
