Hi,

I have purchased an AIR-AP1231G-E-K9 which I believe has the radio :- AIR-MP21G-x-K9

i.e A 2.4 Ghz radio.

In the docs it says that this radio supports 2 external antennas.

However, it is not very clear if this model ALSO has integrated / internal antennas.

Also, if only external antennas are supported, then can it work with just a single antenna ?

Will having only 1 antenna damage the radio ?

Thanks

Ok a further reading of

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/1200/installation/guide/120h_2.html

and comparing it with the 5Ghz radio seems to confirm that only external antennas are supported for the 2.4 Ghz.

Also with only 1 antenna, there is no diversity, but its still allowed.

For the 5Ghz, it seems there is an option of integrated (patch type) or external antennas.

As you say, there are no integrated antennas in any 1200-series access points. You'll need to purchase antennas for use with the APs. Additionally, yes, the AP will work fine with only one antenna. Be sure to configure the AP for only using the RIGHT/PRIMARY antenna, by default it is configured for diversity (both). If you are deploying these to a challenging RF environment, it's recommended that you use diversity antennas.

Cisco 1100-series APs all have integrated antennas.
