2610XM and VWIC-1MFT-E1 card problem

Hi,

I wanted to plugin a VWIC-1MFT-E1 card in the empty slot.

Router doesn't see the new card!

It complains about it:

...

cisco 2610XM (MPC860P) processor (revision 0x301) with 126976K/4096K bytes of m.

Processor board ID FOC082701F7 (221627690)

M860 processor: part number 5, mask 2

Bridging software.

X.25 software, Version 3.0.0.

1 FastEthernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)

2 Serial(sync/async) network interface(s)

32K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.

32768K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

Slot is empty or does not support clock participate

WIC slot is empty or does not support clock participate

...

Unknown WIC in slot(0/1), wic card has an unknown id of 0x0

...

In an other c1751-V the card was detected.

Two WIC-2T are detected both slots.

What can I do?

TIA,

In all likelihood it is an IOS issue ie. your current version of IOS does not support this card. Please refer to this link to determine the correct IOS -

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps274/products_tech_note09186a00800b6e0f.shtml

Jon

Oh, sorry!

I forgot copying the version:

IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-IPBASE-M), Version 12.3(6b), RELEASE SOFTWARE (f)

1MFT-T1/E1 is supported in 2600 series:

12.2 (8T) if I remember well.

TIA,

Hi Attila,

You need to check two things since IOS version looks fine -

IOS feature set - You are running IP Base. The required feature set will be IP Voice or IP Plus.

DSPs - You need to have PVDM on the router for these cards to work. I guess 2600 router does not have a VIC slot. So you'll need a network module like NM-HDV2 on which you'll install the VWIC card and PVDMs.

For VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 you'll need a PVDM2-32 module.

I may be wrong in the slots suggestion since I didn't had a chance to work on 2600 router for long time, few years now and the suggestion is based on the information which I remember. Please cross check the same.

Hi Sushil,

I think you know this page:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5855/prod_qas0900aecd8028d2e5.html

On that page I can see the c2600 series routers.

Can you help me interpret the information? Can I upgrade IOS or not? If the router doesn't support the card itself I needn't upgade the present version.

TIA,

Hi Tia,

There are two VWIC cards available -

1) 1st Generation VWIC-1MFT-E1

2) 2nd generation VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1

I am assuming that you need this module to carry Voice.

IOS requirement for both of them is different -

1) 1st Generation - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps274/products_tech_note09186a00800b6e0f.shtml#platform

2) 2nd Generation - 12.3(14)T

In order to support Voice on this module you need "IP Plus" OR "IP Voice" Feature set (Depends on the IOS version).

Now your 2610XM router has the following slots -

2 WIC slots and 1 NM slot.

Now WIC slot will not give you voice functionality on VWIC module.

You need to have a network module which in which you can inseart this VWIC card.

Following is the required NM -

NM-HDV2 - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk652/tk653/technologies_tech_note09186a008039c333.shtml

in this you'll inseart the VWIC card.

This NM mouduel should be equipped with PVDM as well.

Thus following is what you'll need to have E1 interface on the 2610XM router to support Voice -

1) IOS - 12.3(4)T - IP Voice/ IP Plus

2) One NM-HDV2

3) One VWIC-1MFT-E1 OR VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1

4) One PVDM2-32

-> Sushil

Hi HTH,

(I'm not Tia, I'm Attila. :-D )

I don't want to use my VWIC card for voice! Only for data. In G.704 mode, channel-group 0 timeslot 1-31 because the card doesn't support native G.703 (unframed, unstructured) mode.

My card is VWIC2, because it is written on the card: T1/E1. Is that true?

If I don't want to use any voice feature, can I use my hw for only data?

TIA,

Hi Attila,

Sorry for the mistake with your name.

If you have VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 and you want it to be used for data ONLY, then you just need to upgrade the IOS to 12.3(14)T as pointed earlier by John.

-> Sushil

Hi Sushil,

I think ypu wrote my name in correct format! Or are you HTH, to? ;-)

But forget it. It was just a joke.

About my card:

I upgrade the IOS for the newst one (12.4-23) and it is working (yellow AL lED is lit).

Two question which are related to IOS upgrade:

1. How can I set the boot image in rommon?

Now I used boot system flash:c2600-... command. In rommon I can see the original name of image. Can I change it?

If I can do this I can remove the boot system command from the config.

2. What do these two sentences mean:

Slot is empty or does not support clock participate

WIC slot is empty or does not support clock participate
