Hello, I downloaded the latest release of UCM 7.0, I am currently running 6.1.3.

When I try to do the update the page says that update candidates where found but that the update is not allowed from the current version.

Does anyone know how to go to 7 from 6.1.3?

thx!

Hi Jean Marc,

You won't love this news :( but there is no current upgrade path from CUCM 6.1(3) to CUCM 7.0

See: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html

Release Notes for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 6.1(3)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Updated January 6, 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Caution: Be aware that you can not upgrade directly from Unified CM 6.1(3) to Unified CM 7.0

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/6_1_3/cucm-rel_note-613.html

If you look in the supported Upgrade Paths in the first link that I sent you will also see that there are no upgrades shown from 6.1(3) to any of the current 7.x versions (it doesn't jump out but look closely :)

Hope this helps!

Rob

Thanks Rob, that is helpful.

I have 6.1.2 running in the inactive partition, I'll try upgrading from there.

Hi

I need to upgrade from CUCM-BE version 6.1.1.2000-3 to CUCM-BE 7.1.2 what exactly will be the procedure shd i consider upgrading to 6.1.2 then 7.1.2 ?

and also the current unity connection is : 2.1.0.9901-362 shd we need to upgrade it to 7.x also?

Thanx in advance

Madan

Hi Madan,

This will be a two-hop process as you nicely noted :) You can go to 6.1(2) or 7.0(2) in the first step and 7.1(2) in the second phase. Don't forget to go to 7.1(2a) as 7.1(2) was quickly deferred by Cisco.

As for Unity Connection, you will want to upgrade this as well.

Hope this helps!

Rob

Any license file updates needed to jump from 6.x to 7.x? Sorry to hijack, but thought this would be an appropriate admendment.

Hi Robert,

No worries :)

As far as Licensing goes, yes, any upgrade to a new "train" requires the Software Feature License. So for example;

CUCM 6.0(x) to 6.1(x) = No

CUCM 6.1(x) to 7.0(x) = Yes

Hope this helps!

Rob

Well yes, you'll need 7.1 node license, otherwise, you won't be able to turn on relevant services on that server after the upgrade.

Hi Rob,

Thanx for the kind help - 5 point for that :) so unity connection i need to go for 7.x?

Thanx in advance

Madan

Hi Madan,

You are most welcome my friend! You don't have to upgrade to UC 7.x, but it has proven to be an excellent build with many new features. Have a look at the "new functionality" listed here;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/release/notes/701cucrn.html#wp398180

Hope this helps!
