You can use IMAP with Unity Connection so that voice msgs show as an e-mail, but you have two message stores; one for e-mail and one for voice msgs. (i.e two separate mail accounts)
To have the voice msgs deposited into the same Exchange message store as e-mail, Unity is needed.

Hi Riaz,
Just to add a note to the great tips from Steven (+5 points here Steven :)
Cisco Unity Connection is referred to as, integrated messaging. You will see the differences between this and true "Unified: Messaging in the attached Comparison doc. For "full" Unified Messaging you will need Unity, for "Integrated" Messaging via IMAP access then UC 7.x is a great choice;
Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP)-based email client to access voice messages
- Access email and voicemail and play and delete voice messages from the same desktop email client.
- Voice messages in the email inbox are synchronized with the MWI on the telephone.
- Various standards-based desktop email clients, including Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, and Entourage for Mac, are supported.
- Compose, reply to, and forward messages by using IMAP clients.

Hope this helps!

Hi Riaz,
You are most welcome my friend!
You can upgrade to UC 7.x from all 2.x versions except 2.1(3).
Upgrading Cisco Unity Connection 2.x or Later to the Shipping 7.x Version
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/upgrade/guide/7xcucrug010.html
You Cannot Upgrade from Connection 2.1(3) to 7.0(1) or 7.0(2)
A change that was made to Connection in version 2.1(3) prevents upgrades from version 2.1(3) to Connection 7.0(1) or 7.0(2). To upgrade from Connection 2.1(3), you will need to wait for Connection 7.1(2) to be released, in the second quarter of 2009.

Hi Bruno,
You will require a new License for this upgrade. The related info is in the first link below;
Upgrading Cisco Unity Connection 2.x to the Shipping 7.x Version
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/upgrade/guide/7xcucrug010.html
Upgrade to Release 7.0 Requires Software DVDs
To upgrade from Cisco Unity Connection 2.x to version 7.0 or from Cisco Unified CMBE 6.x to 7.0, you must get DVDs from Cisco. For ordering information, go to the Cisco Ordering website at
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/ordering/index.shtml.
You Cannot Upgrade from Connection 2.1(3) to 7.0(1) or 7.0(2)

Unifed Messaging is not possible in CUX. but you get voice Msgs in the clinet mailbox using IMAP protocol.
i measn CUX can not be integrateable with MS Exchange
