Hello all,

I would like to know if there is a protocol that handles packet loss failover for Gig-E Interfaces on Routers/switches and PIXes. Reason for this is that if a link does go bad with packet loss of > 2%, to make it swap to failover interface automatically. Had an incident today where the main line started to get packet loss and was stuck until someone shutdown the interface and then it failed over.

Is there a way to:

- Set a protocol that will manage/automatically check each interface.

- Ping each interface with a set packet size (usually close to max packet size)

- If packets start to being lost, have it switch automatically to failover link.

- periodically check main link to see if problem has been resolved. If not, flap it shut/no shut state and try it again. (this may be asking too much here)

I know that this is possible using the Reliable Static Routing Backup Using Object Tracking of the links but can this also be incorporated in a BGP environment?
