From: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12.2/50sg/system/messages/emsg.html

When a replicated packet is sent to the software by an output ACL, the hardware does not indicate whether the packet needs to be bridged or routed.

When resources are exhausted or when the ACLs programmed in the hardware cannot handle processing directly (such as ACLs matching TCP flags), the Supervisor Engine III sends the packets to software for processing. If the software cannot determine whether to bridge or route, the packet might be dropped. This drop indicates that the packet was directed to a Hot Standby Routing Protocol (HSRP) router group MAC address.

This is an informational message only. No action is required.

Hi Leolaohoo.

thanks for your information, basically i got that info from cisco msg decoder as well. but i was just thinking if the sup engine is busying for these msg it will use a lots of the cpu proc , then it will hit to the high cpu utilization soon... isn't it ?

your reply will be highly appreciated.

thanks.

That depends on your IOS, configuration and your network. Try doing "sh processor cpu history" just to make sure.

Hi All,

I'm having the same problem here. From what I've seen, this is an informational message but, does anyone know if it's possible not to have this message logged on the syslog server ?

Thanks,

Mary

Check if you also see messages such:

C4K_L3HWFORWARDING-3-FWDCAMCONSISTENCYCHECKFAILED

If those appear quite often, you may have a hardware failure.
