We have a 2811 router with no PVDM installed. This router currently resides in our lab. We have 2 phones configured and an SIP page controller configured as a SIP endpoint. When we run the show voice dsp command we noticed that there are "edsp" that are up and working. My question is what are these dsps and is it safe to call these software DSPs.?

Hello,
I am assuming you are using Call Manager Express. These "edsp" that you are referring to are automatically created when you create a new ephone-dn. For example, if you have ephone-dn 1 dual-line, the output of the show voice dsp command will show:
edsp 0001 01 g729r8 p 0.1 IDLE 50/0/1.1
edsp 0002 02 g729r8 p 0.1 IDLE 50/0/1.2
There will be one edsp created for each channel of a particular ephone-dn, which in this case dual-line is configured, as evidenced by the voice-ports 50/0/1.1 and 50/0/1.2.
Hope that helped, if so please rate.
