Guys
At present I use OP Manager to monitor my LAN. Sadly at present we have a very flat LAN in a single VLAN. I am looking at splitting up the LAN into multiple VLANs. I can easily route between the VLANs this has been tested. What I would like to do is to benchmark the current VLAN utilisation for broadcasts, multicasts, etc... start to migrate servers to the new VLANs and then benchmark again once I have finished. I can't really do this with OP Manager. Does anyone have any experience of using other tools to capture and model this data.
Thanks
Darren

Depending on your switch models you can try to configure either SPAN sessions (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_tech_note09186a008015c612.shtml) or VACL captures (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk389/tk814/technologies_configuration_example09186a00808122ac.shtml)

If you able to set up a span session, then make the source port the entire vlan.
For tools I would recommend Wireshark (ethereal) protocol analyzer. It is a free protocol analyzer you can use to monitor your traffic within the vlan.
