My MC3810 router can't implement VLANs?!

I'm simply trying to set up separate VLANs through my MC3810 in my humble home voice lab. However, the encspsulation command doesn't seem to be available to set up VLANs, whether dot1q or ISL.

Is this just a matter of updating my IOS or can this router not do something so basic as a VLAN?

Hi,

I am pretty sure you can do trunking on a 3810 - however it would only support dot1q.

If you don't have the encapsulation option then it only supports dot1q. Only IOS that support both give that option.

HTH, please rate if helpful.

Hi Jeffrey,

You need fast ethernet ports at a minimum to trunk a router interface.

The MC3810 only has ethernet ports.
