Solved: 3500 XL IOS upgrdation

Hi all,

Can any one tells me how to do IOS upgrdation on 3524 XL switch

HI

First u need to delete the below files from the flash.

c3500xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC14.bin

c3500XL-hdiag-mz-120.5.3.WC.1

after deleting the files dnot restart the switch and after that u can follow the normal tftp procedure.

after the image is copied set the boot path

boot system flash:imagename.

the tftp procedure is the one typically used.

you need a TFTP server on your PC.

be aware that the switch is in EOS.

To download a suitable IOS image for it you may need to go from

www.cisco.com

quick links -> documentation

then you select end of sale end of support products

go to the switches section and select 3500 XL

or you go directly to

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps637/tsd_products_support_eol_series_home.html

you need a CCO account with enough privileges and associated to a valid contract that includes the C3500XL platform to be able to download

normal copy tftp flash commda works for this 3524 XL switch since every document talks about tar file

hello,

I hope this helps:

1. Install TFTP on your system (say desktop).

2. Download the required IOS & save it on your desktop (location where your TFTP server is present)

3. While downloading the IOS image from Cisco, please make a note of the MD5 value present.

4. Telnet to the switch (you can configure it via console as well) & give the command :

copy tftp: flash:

This will prompt the follwing:

Source filename []? xxxxx.bin (provide the image name stored on your desktop)

Address or name of remote host []? xx.xx.xx.xx (your system IP address)

Destination filename [] ? xxxxx.bin (Same name as the source filename to be provided)

5. Now, the copying will start & will take some time. Once it is copied, it will mention as copying is done.

6. give 'dir' command and check if you see the new image preset.

7. verify the IOS (Ex: verify bootflash:xxxx.bin)

8. verify /md5 bootflash:xxxxxx.bin

(ensure that this md5 value is the same as the one obtained while downloading the image from Cisco)

Change the boot sequence & save the configurations. Once done, reload the switch & verify if the switch has booted up with the new image.
