Too much traffic for c7304 ?

Hi everybody,

It looks like I am facing performance issues on my c7304 having processor NPE-G100.

I have some 100 BGP peers on a peering lan. I am getting at peak time some 600 Mbps from these peers plus 300 Mbps from my ISP. All this aggregate traffic loads almost 100% the 1 Gig interface towards the core of my network.

During non-peak hours load is not so high but still CPU moves all the time around 80 to 90%.

Input errors: plenty of ignored and overrun errors on all 3 interfaces any time of the day.

- does it all sound like I need to upgrade to a bigger box ? which one ?

- anybody is handling this amount of traffic and BGP peers with a c7304 ?

For the traffic loads you describe, the NPE-G100 might be insufficient. Next larger would be a 7200 with NSE-G2, next would be 7304 with NSE-150 (should be able to swap engine with your current 7304), next would be ASR series, and next might be 7600 series.
