A Message Store is a mandatory requirement for Unity installations

Unity or Domino your choice

not using one is not a valid option and won't be supported by Cisco

Thank you

java,

I have this scenario and would like to know if it is doable on voicemail email

- Email is hosted by a third party

- Unity set up as Domain Controller with Exchange per Cisco requirements.

- No in house integrated Exchange on Unity, just the default exchange from Unity itself.

Is the Unity box support option on forwarding voicemail email to an outside email address.

Thanks.

What you will do is configure internet subscribers where Unity does the call handling and takes the message but you define the message store of the user as other e-mail where it's going to be sent and nothing is done on Exchange as message store for him.

Look for the proper System Requirements docs for your version

Install and Upgrade Guides

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/prod_installation_guides_list.html

You will see requirements for UM/VM on whether Exchange can be on-box or is mandatory off-box .

Hi Java -

So the voicemail is simply sent to the recipient.... no MWI control correct?

Hey Tommer

That is correct

Internet Subscriber Concepts and Definitions

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/5x/networking/guide/ex/5xcunet040e.html#wp1050583

Other than receiving messages (and possibly calls), Internet subscribers do not have access to other Cisco Unity features, and some sections of the Cisco Unity Administrator are disabled for Internet subscribers. Internet subscribers:

•Cannot log on to Cisco Unity by phone to check or send messages.

•Cannot log on to Cisco Unity by phone-or use the Cisco Unity Assistant-to adjust personal settings, so their recorded names and greetings can only be recorded or changed in the Cisco Unity Administrator.

•Cannot use Cisco Unity ViewMail for Microsoft Outlook or the Cisco Unity Inbox.

•Cannot own private lists.

•Cannot set up or receive message notifications.

•Cannot receive message waiting indications.

All,

I have able to set up and receive email voicemail notification, and here is how I did:

- Unity box set up as a Domain Controller with Exchange and Message Store

- For each subscriber on the Unity, I went in Active Directory Users and Computer to set new password for each subscriber.

- Enable and start POP3 and IMAP services, they were defaulted as Disabled.

- From Outlook, I create a new email account with either IMAP or POP3 and use Unity Server IP address as send and receive server.

- Enter ID and password for the account and check both "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" and "My server requires authentication"

- With this new account, I able to receive voicemail email fine; and it also works with MWI notification.

As for forwarding to an outside email address from Unity, I did the following:

- Create a new contact from Active Directory and set forward to this new contact for each subscriber.(http://faq.apnaserver.com/ex2003forwardemail/)

- Set up SMTP relay from Unity Server (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895853) - in middle of the page

Now, I am able to receive voicemail email notification in both places, the new account id and the forwarding email, ex: webmail)

Another option to access the voicemail email without using the above 2 options is using the exchange web access: http://unity-server-ip-address/exchange, login with userid and password. Still need to setup password for each subscriber.

Hope this will be useful to others that do not have an integrated Exchange or Domino in their environment.

Thanks.
