RSVP delay determination?

Does RSVP determine what incremental delay to specify for each router so a total end to end delay is not exceeded? Or as an example, if the RSVP protocol determined there are 5 routers in a path and its end to end (Sender to Receiver) delay requirement is 500ms would it then ask for 100ms from each router in the RESV request.?

If so, is this a more complicated algorithm then just dividing the delay by the qty of routers in the path?

Hi,

There is no specific algorithm to fix the delay on each router per flow. You need to know what can add delay (buffering, serialization, propagation, compression,..) to your flow and configure each router to be sure it will be minimized.

RSVP is just a control-plane protocol. It needs to be synchronized with your QoS configuration like LLQ
