as I'm studying for my CCNA certification, I'm gathering pieces for my home lab.
Among these (mostly old 25xx's) there is an access server 2511.
The problem I have is that when the router boots from flash, in console messages looks fine until it loads from flash:
Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
IOS (tm) 3000 Software (IGS-I-L), Version 11.0(5), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Copyright (c) 1986-1996 by cisco Systems, Inc.
Compiled Mon 05-Feb-96 23:01 by hochan
Image text-base: 0x0301D76C, data-base: 0x00001000
After that, it apparently hangs as it never completes the initialization and so it never reaches to the prompt. However:
- If I set the router to start from the RXBOOT, I can get to the IOS prompt (so I think CPU, RAM and most of the basic H/W should be working)
- When booted from RXBOOT, I can read, erase and write flash, via tftp (so I would assume flash is also working).
The flash is 8M intel chip and RAM is 16M, and I've tried also to boot with a IOS 10.x, in case 11.x was tight on flash, but no luck.
Bootstrap is pretty old, Version 4.14(9.1)
RXBOOT is Version 9.14(9.b)
Can you help me understand what can be wrong here? Is it h/w or f/w problem?
If you don't mind, would you explain what is happening inside the router after it prints "Image text-base:...."?
P.S.: Sorry, this post should have gone to a LAN section...
