6000W power supply limited to 2940 watts only

Dear friends,


Does anyone know of the cause of this message "PS2 capacity is limited to 2940.00"?. I am seeing that the power supply LED's are green but i am still getting this message.


The switch in question is WS-C6509 (not the E chassis) running IOS 12.2(33)SXH3.

This gives you the details you need. The 6000W PS is limited to 4000W in the 6509 non-e chassis.


To address the note, you can find that info on the same page, at the foot of table A-27:

"When running redundant 4000 W, 6000 W, or 8700 W power supplies in Catalyst 6506 and Catalyst 6509 non-E series systems, if you remove the power supply in bay 1, the total system power will be reduced to 2940 W (70 A at 42 VDC) after 180 seconds (3 minutes). You can avoid this reduction in the total system power by leaving the power supply in bay 1, even in a powered down state."

You are probably running 120 volt power versus 240 volt which would give you full wattage .

We are in Qatar and running 240V. Is this a limitation of the AC power being supplied or the power supply itself?


If its power supply itself, then what is the suggested step in this case?
