We have Unity 4.x with Unified Messaging and want to move from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 soon. It looks like Exchange 2007 is only supported with Unity 5.x but is there a way to introduce an Exchange 2007 server without breaking the Unity 4.x? We aren't concerned about keeping the unified messaging working at this point and we just want to get up to Exchange 2007 preferably with still having Unity 4.x in place. Is this possible?

yes, as long as Unity is not aware of the server and you do not home mailboxes on it, you can install one into the Exchange cluster you have or in a separate Exchange cluster.
Until you upgrade to 5.X which is the 1st release that supports Exchange 2007 you cannot integrate it as partner Exchange nor home Unity mailboxes.

So if users would be moved to the exchange 2007 server I could delete all the current mailboxes and recreate internet mailboxes?
