Hi Houichi,

From the Cisco docs;

“While Cisco 2100 Series Wireless LAN Controllers support transaction-oriented wireless environments such as handheld scanners in retail, the Cisco 4400 Series Wireless LAN Controllers are recommended for high-data-rate and multicast-intensive applications such as large data files, video, push-to-talk.”

Hi Houichi,

In addition to Rob's post, the 4400 are rack-mountable while the 2100 are not. There are other things a 2100 can't do, such as LAGs. One of the benefits of using the 2100 is when space is a premium and 2100 uses RJ45 as links. 4400 uses SFP.

In my humble opinion, you should consider using a 4400-50 just in case there's an option for you to grow.

The basic differences are these:

2100 has lower powered processor.

2100 only has 100base-t ports 4400 gig

2100 has ext. power brick, 4400 internal

4400 can be used easily as mobility anch.

basic rule of thumb to follow is more than 15 users go with a 4400.
