Adding 2 7914 Extension Modules to a 7960 phone.

We are in the process of rolling out a new system to one of our clients with the latest IOS, and have run into an issue.  Ther are 2 receptionists, each using a 7960 with 2 of the 7914 Expansion modules each, but neither module is displaying.  We found a command line that would allow us to add 1 module, but it would give an error when trying to add '2', and all the LED's are solid red on all 4 expansion units.  Any ideas would be greatly appreaciated.

It should be something like

on the ephone config

type 7960 addon 1 7914 2 7914

After that, you should make sure that the 7914's are downloading the firmware for them.

I would do a debug tftp packets and reboot the phone to see if the 7914's are downloading the firmware.

Thanks Steven, the "...1 7914 2 7914" did add the additional speeddial fields in the CUE, and automatically propogated to 1 of the receptionist's set of 7914's, however, it never worked for the 2nd receptionist.  But with that being said, all 4 of the 7914's are back to where we started, no names and extensions listed, just solid red lights. From the CUE, the names added for the for the speeddials do show on the 5 programmable buttons on the phone, just no interaction with the 7914's.  There is also a message in the settings of the phone, for the expansion modules stating, "link state not supported".

This sounds like a firmware problem.  Can you do the tftp debugs and reboot the phone?  That should be helpful.

What software pack for the UC500 are you using?

Also, can you do a show ephone phone-load.

Early Release 7.0.1, and we are rebooting and collecting the Tftp debug.  Once we have that data, how do we go about reading the debug?

Here is the show ephone phone-load, these are the only two with the 7914's attached.

SEP001DA23E851C   8.0(5.0)              8.0(5.0)               Reset-Restart
SEP001DA23E7BD5   8.0(5.0)              8.0(5.0)               Reset-Restart

Post the debug here.  I will help with that part.

Can you also post a dir flash:?

And show run | inc load

Thanks

Attached is the dir flash, and the show run | inc load

I am having the exact same problem but with just one 7914.

Was anyone able to find out the solution?

The following command actually fixed it for me.  We ended up have to reboot the entire UC unit after work hours, and then it propogated to the 2nd phone.  Have you restarted the phone since added the line below?

on the ephone config

type 7960 addon 1 7914 2 7914

Jeremy

I was able to register the phone via CUE and it shows up as Phone Type: 7960/14.

I have assigned ext number on the 7914 but all red lights.

I have not re-booted the system but  re-booted the phone a billion times

Do you think I need to add the command even though it has shown up on the CUE?

I will do a re-boot after hours and let you know.

Thanks for your quick response BTW!

Not sure if it helps or not, but here is the ephone config for 1 of our receptionists phones.  There are actually 2 - 7914's, I just removed all the buttons to keep it short.

ephone  49
device-security-mode none
video
mac-address 0024.14B2.CE35
ephone-template 16
username "tbarnes" password ****
type 7960 addon 1 7914 2 7914
button  1:62 2w20 3w36 4w10
button  5w39 6w15 7w40 8w25
button  9w14 10w17 11w27 12w31
button  13w24 14w41 15w26

First number is the button on the phone or 7914, and the 2nd number is the ephone-dn associated with users.  'w' represents watch, if the line is on a call, if there are VM's waiting, etc, etc.

Jeremy

I tried this with CCA 2.2 (added a 7914 to a 7961).  it worked.  So I am trying to figure out what happened to you?

I looked at the tftp-server statements, and I didnt see a 7914 load.  I do have this in mine.

tftp-server flash:/phones/7914/S00105000400.sbn alias S00105000400.sbn

So I wonder, did you use the Phone Load Manager of CCA 2.2 to click the request for that phone load to be put on flash, CNF files created and load statements to telephony-service?  Cause CCA will do that all for you.

I was also recently told that simply dragging and dropping a phone load from your desktop into the CCA topology ICON for UC500 will also do all this, but that I didnt try.  But heads up cause I dont think thats well known.  The idea is CCA is supposed to make life easier, so this is a big concern for us.
