Setting the boot parameter for an IOS

fsebera

When setting the boot parameters for the BOOTVAR, several options exist for the 6500 series in Native mode.

I choose the source location, file name and other options.

Somewhere/somehow the BOOTVAR (show bootvar) adds a ,1; to the end of each IOS file. As seen in previous posts by several other folks, the number (,1;) instructs the boot loader process to try to load this file one time and if not available from the specified source, give up and move onto the next option. If the number was (,2;) the process would try two times before moving onto the next load option.

Long story short - How does one set this parameter?

I know I can specift the same IOS file from multiple places but I want to try reading from the same source three times before moving onto the next option.

Thanks again!!

Frank

Hi,

You should be able to set this parameter in rommon mode:

BOOT= ,3

But I never try it.

Here it is ...

conf t

no boot system

boot system flash sup-bootdisk:/

end

write

Hope this helps.

Hey Leolaohoo,

Hummm, where did you specify the number (#) of retires?

Did you forget to enter this detail?

Tks

Hi Franck,

Just to make a follow-up, Why do you think my answer was not helpful ?

I'm pretty sure this is the only way to do it:

rommon 1>BOOT=flash:,n;

rommon 2>sync

rommon 3>reset

When it's done, don't update this variable from the IOS via the boot system flash command or the number of retries will be reset to its default value.

Thanks for your feedback

Laurent.

Hey Laurent,

No, I did not mean to flag your message as not helpful, only Leolaohoo response.

I think I may misunderstand how this rating feature operate.

Thanks for your feedback.

The rate is per post so you need to select the answer you want to rate first.

Hi Frank,

Nope I didn't forget. This is the cut-down version of the template I created when I was upgrading from CatOS to Modular IOS.
