We are currently running unity version 5. I want to allow users to control their voice mailbox by spoken command, e.g. 'Play', 'Delete' etc.

Do I need additional software?

thanks

Hi,

Yes you need a separate server. From the admin guide

"Voice-recognition features allow subscribers to interact with Cisco Unity by speaking rather than by using the phone keypad. The features are licensed by number of concurrent sessions, and require installation and configuration of voice-recognition software on a separate and dedicated server. Voice recognition is not available to outside callers."

Hope this helps

Paul

can you order the software from cisco or do you need nuance?

You need Speech Connect

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9676/index.html

Here is the install and admin guide as well for more details of the system requirments

Thanks

Paul

I actually need speech recognition for message commands so say "Play, STOP, Send" etc.

Speech connect only gives outside callers the ability to use speech auto attendant

From the design guide we need to order nuance software and it runs on a separate server but its not clear if the Nuance software and voice recognition licence have to come from cisco, any ideas?

If it works anything like Unity Connection, you need to Edit your User setting and under your Phone Menu  -  check the box for "Use Voice Recognition input style" specific user to allow for voice.

You need a Unity Voice Recognition Server. This software can be purchased from Cisco. It is a linux based OS and runs on a separate server. Installation guide is below. We've been using this for a while. Works pretty well.

Hope this helps.

Speech Connect doesn't do anything for you in this scenario. That is a Speech-Enabled Auto Attendant.  Brandon is correct - you would want to use a Voice Rec server and you'll need to check your licensing to ensure you have enough sessions to cover what your anticipated usage is (also based on how many ports you have for the system as a whole).
