Hello all. This is probably an easy fix, but i'm stumped.. I am running a 871W router in my lab, and the computer running the SDM had a hard drive failure. I have re-installed sdm, and all windows updates, HOWEVER, SDM will not launch, I get all the way to the Cisco SDM Express for 192.168.2.1; will open in another window.Do not close.... But the other window never opens.. Any thoughts, does IE8 have a setting I'm missing.. it's really driving me insane!!!! Also when running from the desktop shortcut it was failing to load the .Shtlm so I set the file type to open in IE8.. Not sure what the deal is.. was working fine before hand.

Oh also I can telnet and SSH just fine. so shouldn't be a connection issue.

Did anything at all change on your router? SDM has worked on this router before right? Normally SDM isnt too difficult to setup, but I've never used it with IE8.

To enable SDM on a Cisco router, you must configure the router to support web-based applications,

configure it with a user account defined with privilege level 15, and configure it to support the Telnet and

SSH protocols. You add the following command lines:

ip http server

ip http secure-server

ip http authentication local

username privilege 15 password 0

line vty 0 4

privilege level 15

login local

transport input telnet

transport input telnet ssh

As you mentioned, this should probably be something easy. Since SDM is very picky in regards to Java make sure you have one of the compatible versions for 2.4:

•JRE 1.5_09

•JRE1.4.2_08

•JRE 1.5.0_06

•JRE 1.5.0_07

After that there are a couple of settings to check on your browser, look for:

Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Security

And following two options should be checked:

Allow active content to run in files on My Computer

Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid

Hope it helps
