I have several 6509E series switches - all have identical hardware and software installed.

My procedure:

1. Update the IOS

2. Modify the boot parameters in config

3. Saving the bootvar parameters, wr

4. Reload switch

5. Verify config and related elements

6. I find different bootvar parameters are listed in the bootvar field.

7. This failure only appears on two of the 10 switches.

See details below:

switch6#sh bootvar

BOOT variable = sup-bootdisk:s72033-advipservicesk9-mz.122-33.SXH4.bin,1;

We saw this issue on SXH3a

Try the following commands:

show version | i register

remote command switch show version | i register

If there is a discrepency between the register settings do a 'config-register 0x2102' then run the two commands again. The remote command should indicate the current setting and the setting at next reload. Reload the switch and we should be there.

Hey Mpopple

Thanks for the support -

We have 14 NEW 6509E switches with identical hardware/software installed and all nearly the same configs (Ip adresses and descriptions etc are different). Only two of the 14 switches have this issue.

The config register is the same on ALL 14 boxes as seen here.

switch5#sh ver | i register

Configuration register is 0x2102

switch5#remote command switch show version | i register

Configuration register is 0x2102

I'll keep pokine around, hopfully TAC will offer something soon.

You may try to change the config register to something else like 0x2142 then back again to 0x2102.

FYI

Cisco reports this IS a BUG in the code.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Frank
