Hi, can someone clarify why the password I specify below is not accepted? What should I specify as a 'hidden' password then?

sw1(config)#line vty 0 15

Platform:

c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-50.SE1.bin

sw1(config-line)#password ?

0 Specifies an UNENCRYPTED password will follow

7 Specifies a HIDDEN password will follow

LINE The UNENCRYPTED (cleartext) line password

sw1(config-line)#password 7 test

Invalid encrypted password: test

sw1(config-line)#

The "hidden" password is the already encrypted password.

If you were to enable service password-encryption, and then do a "sh run", the password has the type 7 encryption applied to it. You can then copy this encrypted password, and paste it in another router by using "enable password 7 "
