Router 3825

Unanswered Question

I accidently entered the "format flash" command via the console connection. Now the router is not accessible. How can I recover from this? The "reload" command was entered. The router was restarted.

I have this problem too.

Hi,

If you have a flash card reader for your PC you can download the IOS from Cisco, copy it to the flash card and then put the card back into the router. If you do not have a card reader you can xmodex the IOS from rommon to get the router back up. Below is a document on how to do that.

There is never need for xmodem.

The flash image is copied via TFTP, much faster and robust.

When doing a console connection, the terminal window only produces nonsense characters. How can I boot the router to produce the "rommon" or "boot" prompt?

With patience, change your terminal speed from the highest speed down. Eventually you will be able to see and enter commands.

You will then also need to reset the configuration register, use defaults.
