Can't upgrade AP from autono to lightweight

I have a 1242AP that I believe is in autonomous mode(the controller doesn't see it but the AP can ping the controller) but I can't upgrade the IOS on the AP. I can ping the AP from my laptop but I can't open the GUI. Is it possible to upgrade the IOS via CLI?

yes,

you want to tftp/ftp the LWAPP image to it.

Look at this link for some help -

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a00809f0e94.shtml#task2

Use the LWAPP recovery image

I would do the long way and reset the AP with MODE, let it revert to autonomus and only then upgrade to lwapp. it is the safest way.

everything you need is in here:

Ivan,

Use the Conversion Tool. You run the risk of upgrading via CLI (remotely) and the AP won't Join the controller.
