I have both cat6 switches connect together via 5x Gigabit ethernet (Etherchannel). The port-channel interface assign with vlan55. Interface Vlan55 is use as point2point routed interface between 2 cat6 switches.

I have an questions :

1) Cat6 , SVI interface does it have limitation the speed it can handle ?

Can it handle line speed of 5x GE (5Gbbps) in port-channel ?

2) Can we configure the BW command on interface to 5Gbps if we knew it going to have physical speed of 5Gbps on VLAN55. Reason is the MTRG show over 1Gbps on SVI right now..and I belived the SVI now is running more that 1 Gbps.

Regards

Hello Choh,

bandwidth parameter is an administrative parameter that doesn't need to be reflected on the real performances of an interface.

This is true for any kind of physical interface.

For the SVI the reference bandwidth can be something like 4 Gbps but this doesn't mean that L3 traffic cannot be more then that.

1) yes the SVI can handle the 5 GE bundle.

2) yes you can do it.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
