Sending Traffic Using The Traffic Generator To Validate Queues

I am trying to send traffic firm a traffic generator(Ixia & Spirent) on R831 from one Fe to the other. I can pass traffic but I cannot exercise the rate limit function.

No matter what the rate-limit values are I still get what I generate from the test set.

Anybody out there who has used Ixia or Spirent to validate the queues on router, please offer their thoughts.

I have laso tried a 2500 model and see the same behavior.

Hello Sukesh,

have you enabled CEF on routers ?

CAR (rate-limit) should require CEF to be enabled.

I did this kind of test in the past with good results on GSR, C7500.

if you are using queuing with CBWFQ be aware that until there are resources the router will try to serve the traffic (it is elastic not fixed like a Custom Queueing )

I tested also multiple queues with spyrent and it requires to create multiple flows and you need to create a mix of traffic that slightly is over the link bandwidth with traffic exceeding a single class.

if you do so you should see that only packets of that class experience some losses.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Thanks for your input.

Yes, I have enabled CEF on the interface.

I will have to try by creating multiple flows. Will let you know

Thanks again
