Can you please provide me the details on how to reset and reconfigure the Cisco IP Phone 7960G.

You cannot do that if you don't have firmware files and a TFTP server, without these the telephone will become a brick once you enter the reset sequence.

There is no way to backup images from a cisco phone.

How do I get the firmware for the IP Phone? Is there any way, i can check the funcitionality of the IP phone without going through all these?

You need a support contract to download firmware from CCO.
Sorry, there is no easy way.

I am not sure about the support contract on this product. What is going to happen by uploading the firmware? Can I just connect it to the Appropriate router/Switch and use the existing firmware verion.
Can you please name the router/switch is most compatible with IP phone 7960G

Be reassured that you don't have a support contract currently.
If you connect to a router and configure CME, you should be able to use current FW and do calls.
Any recent router can be used, ISR, 26xx, 36xx, etc.
