cannot hear voice when off-hook on cisco 7970G phone

Folks,

I have a little problem with Cisco 7970g IP phone that I have installed using call manager 7.0

My problem is;

when I make a call to another phone, I do not hear the other party when off-hook.however,I hear the other party when placed in loud speaker.

What is going on and how do I fix this problem?

did you connect another handset to that phone yet? are you sure you connected the handset to the right port and not the headset port on the phone?
