Hi, I'm trying to design a network that uses a 4510 with redundant sups in the data center, and a couple of 3560Es as distribution switches that lead to access layer switches. I'd like to split the load on the 2 3560s by running MST and having each working under normal conditions and have the ability to take over the other switch's load in the event one of those 3560s goes down. These 3560s will each have 2 10gb uplinks, and I was wondering if I can use the 2 10gb uplinks on each of the sup 6E engines, even the redundant one to support an uplink from an active 3560 switch. In other words I'd like to have each 3560 use its 10gb uplink interfaces in an etherchannel that runs down to one of the sup engine's 10gb uplinks. Then I would have the other 3560 doing the same thing to redundant sup engine. Will that work, are those uplinks on a redundant sup active even though the sup engine is not the active sup engine?
thank you,
Bill

Hello Bill,
we are using one link on each supervisor.
this is an access layer switch.
I can see the CDP neighbors on link te3/1 and te4/1.
Hope to help

Starting IOS 12.2.48 with Sup6-E in a redundant config, all 4 10G uplinks are available in 2:1 oversubscribed mode.
The command to enable the 4 10GE ports is:
hw-module uplink mode shared-backplane

Hello Bill,
we have recently deployed C4500 with double supervisor:
the 10GE link on standby supervisor can be used see the following:
Mod Redundancy role Operating mode Redundancy status
----+-------------------+-------------------+----------------------------------
3 Active Supervisor SSO Active
4 Standby Supervisor SSO Standby hot
sh ip int br | inc Ten
TenGigabitEthernet3/1 unassigned YES unset up up
TenGigabitEthernet3/2 unassigned YES unset administratively down down
TenGigabitEthernet4/1 unassigned YES unset up up
TenGigabitEthernet4/2 unassigned YES unset administratively down down
We are using
sh ver | inc image
System image file is "bootflash:cat4500-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SG1.bin"
Hope to help

Thanks Giuseppe, so it looks like from your output they are available, but you yourself are not actually using them. Hopefully I can get this in a lab and test for sure. Thanks for the insight.
