VRRP on collapsed Backbone model issue

Hi ,

Could do please someone help me to solve one of the design problem.

as in the attached diagram, SW A and SW B act as L3 device and all other switches act as L2

switch. For a particular vlan A SW A act as Master. similarly for vlan x also.

If SW A is line card fails, link a, link b and link c will fail. Then SW B should come master for VLAN x.

Further, non of the port was on the vlan x on SW A, vlan interface A should be down on SW A.

In this case, how the packet from VLAN A reach VLAN x ? Once packet from vlan A reaches SW A how can we route to

VLAN x ?

Is it possible to run OSPF ( eventhough at normal condition all the networks are directly connected ) ?

If VLAN interface A is down on SW A, then VRRP would automatically ensure that SW B becomes active for VLAN A as well as it is for VLAN x. In that situation you should be home safe.

Another thing you could do is to use tracking to make sure that if the line card in SW A goes down, as you state, then the VRRP priority is lowered and thus the VRRP on SW B for VLAN A becomes preferred. With that you don't have to depend on being sure that the VLAN A interface in SW A indeed do go down.
