Cisco 2811 with 10mb ethernet handoff internet access

We have a Cisco 2811 that currently serves two bonded T1's for internet access. We are looking into replacing that with a 10mb connection from a local ISP.

Our router has two FastEthernet and two Serial connections. Of those, only one of the FastEthernet's is in use. Does anyone know if this model router will support the faster connection and if we can use the existing two FastEthernet's, one for inside, one for outside.

Specs:

Cisco 2811 (revision 53.51) with 251904K/10240K bytes of memory.

Version 12.4(23)

62720K bytes of ATA CompactFlash

Thanks,

Mark

Hello Mark,

for a 10 Mbps link you should be fine with your 2811 using the free Fastethernet.

Be aware that working at 100 Mbps full rate is not possible for the 2811.

It is not supposed to be able to do it.

It is recommended to shape at a little less then 10 Mbps if the physical link is 100 Mbps.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Besides what Giuseppe describes, if your ISP connection is physically 10, and internal 100, you might want to enable FQ via CBWFQ since Ethernet default is FIFO.

e.g.

policy-may yournamehere

class class-default

fair-queue

interface fastEthernet #/#

service-policy output yournamehere
