Nexus and Ciscoworks

Hi everybody

We will migrate our Datacenter to the Nexus-Plattform (first step: nexus 7000 and nexus 1000v) this year. One of the many questions around it: Is Ciscoworks LMS capable of managing Nexus-Switches, or are we completly bound to DCNM.

The primary concern is on RME Config Management and - regarding the nexus 1000 v - the ANI-Server, which to my knowledge doesn't have any counterpart in DCNM.

If Management through Ciscoworks is possible - which Version is required respectivly to what Date can a Update be expected

If Nexus-Switches can only managed through DCNM - is there a way (esp. for ANI-Server) to integrate the different Data-Sources to one User-Interface or do we have to code something for ourselves?

thx in adavance & greetings from Switzerland

Stefan

Yes, CiscoWorks LMS 3.1 and later support various Nexus switch models. You should update your devices packages to the latest versions to ensure the most current device support. Do this via automation (Common Services > Software Center > Schedule Device Downloads) or via the user interface manually (Common Services > Software Center > Device Update). You can also download the files for manual integration into your server via the various components' Software Update pages on Cisco.com. (e.g., http://cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cw2000-rme for RME)

There are a couple of tables posted on cisco.com that outline support for all platforms.

For LMS 3.1, see: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/3.1/device_support/table/lms31sdt.html

For LMS 3.2 (the brand new release), see: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/3.2/device_support/table/lms32sdt.html

There certainly is some support, at least. See the "Supported Device Table" for your specific version of LMS.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/cscowork/ps2425/products_device_support_tables_list.html

Unfortunately, these pages appear to be messed up right now, and google doesn't have a full cache:

"Supported Devices Tables for LMS 3.1 - Cisco SystemsThe following table lists the devices supported in LMS 3.1 ...... Data Center Switches, Cisco Nexus 1000V Series Switches, 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.12.3.1.3.840 ...
