DHCPv6 and wireshark

All,

I'm trying to configure dhcpv6, and it's not working. When I run wireshark I see absolutely nothing from my host requesting an address. I get the link local of the router interface, but that's it. I have the following configured:

ipv6 dhcp pool TEST

dns-server 2002::32

domain-name test.com

int FastEthernet0/0

no ip address

ipv6 address 2001::2/48

ipv6 nd other-config-flag

ipv6 dhcp server TEST

end

I have my host directly connected to fa0/0 via crossover cable. I can ping the v6 address, but I'm not getting a global address from the pool. I've tried the prefix-delegation command like:

prefix-delegation 2001::/48 <random numbers>

It's not working, and I can't figure out why. I've followed Cisco's doc, but at one point it says that configuring dhcpv6 client is required, but I'm not requesting an address from anything else.

Has anyone done this before, and can you see where I went wrong?

I'm using Windows XP SP3 as a host.

Thanks,

John

One more thing. The last I checked, there was no native DHCPv6 client support on Windows XP but some 3rd party software was available though.

Hi John,

Make sure that you use a /64 prefix as this is required for auto-configuration.
